René Tromborg (b. 1972, Copenhagen) is a Danish contemporary artist working within geometric abstraction. His paintings combine architectural structure, rhythmic composition and freehand precision in a visual language shaped by graffiti culture, Bauhaus principles and urban environments.
Originally active in the graffiti scene during the 1980s, Tromborg later spent years in Brooklyn, New York working as a music producer and songwriter. This experience continues to influence his artistic practice, where rhythm, layering and spatial movement play a central role.
Tromborg’s works have been exhibited internationally through galleries and collaborative exhibitions in Europe and Asia, including Germany, Denmark and Singapore, and are held in private collections worldwide.
Artist statement
My work is rooted in geometry, rhythm and the way we experience space.
My paintings are built through layers of acrylics, intersecting forms and shifting compositions that evolve and challenges the viewer over time.
I paint everything in freehand. I never use masking tape. To me, working this way creates a more organic, dynamic expression and makes my work much more personal and unique
Architecture, urban environments, music and graffiti culture have all shaped the way I see and compose. I grew up with graffiti during the 1980s, where rhythm, balance, surface and movement became an instinctive way of seeing space. Later, years spent in Brooklyn working as a music producer and songwriter deepened my understanding of composition, repetition and pacing, elements that still influence the way I build a painting today.
From a distance, my paintings might look clear and simple.
But when you step closer, you see their complexity, movement, and human presence.
Ultimately, my work is about finding a balance between control and spontaneity.
